The return of ’60s cool
ITN Architects also captured the spirit of the 1960s in a house in Caulfield, Melbourne. The house was originally designed by architect Tom Jacobi in the early 1960s. Unfortunately, many of Jacobi’s distinctive features were removed in the ’80s and the home was given a Rococo makeover (think gold columns and ornate trims).
A few original elements were thankfully spared, including wide-slung eaves and a dramatic curved glazed wall in the entrance.
“We couldn’t go back to Jacobi’s original design. But we could create a certain spirit from that period," architect Aidan Halloran says.
